Four artists of national and international stature will
present paintings and photographs at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary
Art in a building-wide dialogue about spirit and the collective
unconscious. Imaging the Spirit, photographs by Albert Chong, Juan
Carlos Alom and Cirenaica Moreira, and Anima Umbra, paintings by Kelli
Scott Kelley, will open with a 6 ˆ 8 p.m. public reception on Friday,
Sept. 28. The artists will attend.
Boulder resident Albert Chong‚s work will include still-life tableaus
and portraits that seek to illuminate life passages. Chong has exhibited
at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, New York; Robert Menschel Photography
Gallery of Syracuse University; and the Kiang Gallery, Atlanta. He is
currently featured in the Venice Biennale. His work is in held in
numerous public collections including the High Museum of Art, Atlanta,
and Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven, as well as in private
collections.
Alom and Moreira, who are husband and wife, are Cuban photographers
whose work explores dreamlike metaphors. Alom investigates highly
charged fleeting apparitions in the form of birds, silhouettes and
figures, whereas Moreira‚s feminist-inspired settings illuminate social
contradictions in which the body is set against technology and
architecture.
