"Radical Fashion: Trends of the Future"
2001-10-18 until 2001-01-16
Victoria and Albert Museum
London, , UK

Showcasing the work of the most spectacular and avant-garde international fashion designers of today, the exhibition will include the following visionaries - Alexander McQueen, Hussein Chalayan, Issey Miyake, Yohji Yamamoto, Martin Margiela, Comme des Garcons, Junya Watanabe, Azzendine Alaia, Jean Paul Gaultier, Vivienne Westwood and Helmut Lang. Radical Fashion will convey the extraordinary leap of imagination designers make to take risks and change fashion.

Each designer will create their own installation revealing their creative processes. A silver catwalk will lead visitors through the exhibition. Moving images projected onto glass, floor and ceilings, huge scale photographs, computer generated images, touchable panels of fabrics and life-size holograms will create an atmospheric, futuristic environment.

Fashion’s impact goes beyond that of constantly changing clothes – it spills into other creative areas where many fashion designers collaborate with fine artists. Radical Fashion will demonstrate the significance of the power of fashion as a visual phenomenon.

Radical Fashion will show fashion at its most creative, applauding fashion as one of the most influential elements of design in our society today – beautiful, challenging and constantly changing our ideas about our world and ourselves.
