"The Fine Art of Photography"
2001-10-19 until 2002-01-13
Scottish National Portrait Gallery
Edinburgh, ,
UK
This exhibition celebrates the Scottish National
Photography Collection, which was established
by the National Galleries of Scotland in 1984 and
now contains around 25,000 photographs, dating
from the beginnings of the medium to the
present day. The 200 photographs on show will
include the pioneering work of D. O. Hill and
Robert Adamson, as well as that of other
nineteenth-century Scots Thomas and J. Craig
Annan, William Donaldson Clark, William
Carrick and John Thomson.
Among the
twentieth-century work on show will be
photographs by Alfred Stieglitz, Bill Brant,
Roger Fenton, Eve Arnold and Annie Leibovitz.
The last thirty years has seen an impressive
upsurge in the range of Scottish photography,
and the exhibition will also be a celebration of
the present and future of the art. The Fine Art of
Photography will be accompanied by a
fully-illustrated Companion Guide, the latest in
the National Galleries' series of guides to the
collections.
