"Experimental Design Award 2001"
2001-11-09 until 2002-02-05
San Francisco Museum of Modern Art
San Francisco, CA, USA

The SFMOMA Experimental Design Award has announced its inaugural winners, and they represent the full breadth of experimentation taking place in the Bay Area. This year's recipients are: Thom Faulders, Donald Fortescue and Post Tool Design.

All three winners build on a tradition of craft and exhibit a strong knowledge of the material native to their discipline--whether it is wood, typography and two-dimensional composition, or constituent elements of the built environment--and elaborate them into experiments that question the very notion of usability, comfort and communication. Each of the designers forces us to think more clearly about what it means to use a space, an object or information, and each establishes building blocks for almost mythical universes that parallel our own.
