The artist made the following statement relating to this exhibition:
I have worked with increasingly abstract form in painting since the seventies. But the still-life arranged on the table in my studio still remains a crucial source of information for my work. Perhaps it’s all about the nature of artistic vision rather than the subject matter, or the style, or the content...
My new work, perhaps even more than the old work, is all about vision, light and space. And that means tactile space, aesthetic space, shape, rhythm, interval, colour, etc, etc. I like to think of myself as a composer working with visual form.
An artwork, irrespective of style and perceived meaning, is nothing more, or less, than an incarnation of visual and creative intelligence. And always, somehow, the greater philosophical concept of Beauty comes into the picture’

He was awarded a Master of Fine Arts from University of Cape Town in 1983 and has lived and worked in Stellenbosch from 1995.
