The Kindness of Friends: A Selection of Gifts of Drawings and Prints,
1919-2001, highlights notable works on paper that have been given or
bequeathed to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art since its founding.
From William Randolph Hearst to David Hockney, the museum has been the
recipient of thousands of gifts of drawings and prints over the last eight
decades.
While celebrating the people who have made these contributions,
this exhibition of approximately 160 works from the 15th century to the
present also functions as a chronicle of 20th-century collecting taste in Los
Angeles. The distinguished roster of donors includes Cary Grant, Gregory
Peck, George Cukor, Billy Wilder, Vincent Price, and Clifford Odets.
Curator: Kevin Salatino, Prints and Drawings, Los Angeles County Museum of
Art.
