PLUS ULTRA is very pleased to present
Salon Style: An Exhibition of Photography, featuring
recent work by 14 artists from New York, Caracas, and
London. Installed floor to ceiling, the works blanket
the gallery walls, offering a rich, exhilarating
survey of contemporary photography. The artists
include Lara Alcantara-Lansberg, Meredith Allen, John
Berens, Liz Deschenes, Amy Eshoo, Stacy Greene,
Heather Halliday, Karolyn Hatton, Nick Kline, Claire
Lesteven, Joe Ovelman, Laurie de Swarte, Sara Wight,
and Mark Woods.
Representing a broad range of innovative photographic
techniques, the work in Salon Style is unified
conceptually through a shared exploration of the
relationship between landscapes and objects. Sometimes
front-and-center, sometimes quite obscure, the
objects in these perceived environments run the
gamut from ice cream to cars, from evidence of the
image creation process to people in non-portrait (or
supportive) poses. The salon style installation takes
this exploration one step further, creating a
landscape within the gallery in which the photographs
also become objects. In this way the very notion of
what a landscape is comes into question.
