"Under the Sign of the City: Contemporary Art from Turkey"
2001-12-20 until 2002-02-17
Kunstmuseum, Bonn
Bonn, , DE Germany

The Kunstmuseum Bonn has for some years now been putting on exhibitions that, in a globalized world, are dedicated to the artistic production of a geographic periphery. At the beginning of 1996 there was the large exhibition China!, followed in 1999 with Contemporary Art from Portugal: For this presentation the program includes 8 visions of modern Turkish art since 1945.

The exhibition is not a backward look at Turkey's postwar art, but sees itself as a young and up-to-date position on aesthetic ideas realized and formulated by 8 differently oriented artistic personalities. All the artists live in Turkey, or more precisely in Istanbul. These artists demonstrate that art in Turkey can very well claim to be international.

This exhibition features works by Esra Ersen (*1970 Ankara), Hale Tenger (*1960 Izmir), Hüseyin Bahri Alptekin (*1957 Ankara), Güven Incirlioglu (*1960), Ömer Ali Kazma (*1971 Istanbul), Serhat Kiraz (*1954 Istanbul), Murat Morova (*1970 Izmir).
