Indepth Arts News: "These Drawings Steve Stelling Curated by Sylke Krell" 2002-01-05 until 2002-01-26 Ohio Art League Columbus, OH, USA United States of America
The Ohio Art League is pleased to announce its January
Member Curated Exhibition, These Drawings curated by Sylke Krell. This exhibition features the work of Steve Stelling of Columbus. Stelling has exhibited his work across Ohio.
'I think Steve Stelling and I met at a Rock and Roll show...All I can
remember thinking about him at the time was‘damn this guy is a talker;’
speaking volumes with intense amounts of information...I have an immense
amount of affection for Steve’s work. His paintings dwell in this beautiful
place created by a grasp on theoretical issues and a personal need for play.
He began his drawing investigations simply by using black ink and paper,
eventually moving on to crayon, colored inks, and occasionally paint...He
can turn ink and paper into castle like forms and weird wrapped meat, which
evoke some far off moment of childhood frenzy. None of his drawings are
readily discernable as anything from real life but each has a feeling of
some kind of realness...There is evidence in each piece of a bending of the
rules governing perspective and 2-dimensional spatial relationships...'
About the MCE’s: The Ohio Art League invites it’s 500+ artists to submit a
short written proposal to the Exhibition Committee. Exhibitions can be
thematic, retrospective or otherwise. A proposal includes and outline for an
exhibition describing the idea, well thought out and presented with visuals.
The proposals are reviewed by a committee of League members, and are
selected based on the exhibition idea. Once a proposal is approved and
scheduled the committee does not interfere with the integrity of the
exhibition.
The Ohio Art League is a nonprofit member organization dedicated to the
presentation and support of Ohio based artists. The gallery is located at
954 N. High Street in Columbus’ Short North. The gallery is open to the
public every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 12 -5 pm. For
more information please contact Linda Gall at 614-299-8225.
