"Prevailing Human Spirit, The Exhibition"

This memorial exhibition is being held in response to the heartrending events of
September 11, 2001. Artists of an international graphic community have responded to
our call to participate in an event that honors heroism and humanity demonstrated by
countless individuals in the wake of this tragedy. These artists have answered with a
naturally creative and deep sense of duty to document, validate, and inspire. They have
contributed to work that relates to the darkest hours in our recent history and the
courage it has required to prevail beyond it.
Their response has been generous. Over 600 artists have registered. In addition to
their artistic contributions, each will donate $50.00 directly to major relief funds, which
will then be distributed to benefit those victims of the World Trade Center disaster. They
have released rights for reproductions of most images to be offered for sale as an
additional fundraising effort.
As the catastrophic event has been unprecedented, the nature of this exhibition has
implications that are historical, cultural and universal, in addition to artistic. A variety of
concepts are promised to be expressed in the whole, among them: heroism, politics,
patriotism, American freedom, and portraiture. There are a variety of artistic disciplines:
editorial, narrative, and three dimensional.
The hope is that you will come join and view this compelling collection of imagery, with the
possible intention of sharing and broadening the scope of this endeavor. Perhaps there
is work among the hundreds of images submitted that would be poignant enough for
you or your organization to select and produce a book or package of imagery, a poster,
a tour, or whatever you may envision to further the potential of raising funds beyond
this initiative.
