"Five Darwin Painters: Kathy Arbon, Bryan Bulley, Rob Brown, Jacqueline Stockdale, Karen Mills"
2002-02-15 until 2002-03-09
24 HR Art - Northern Territory Centre for Contemporary Art
Darwin, NT,
AU
Be dazzled by crazy cartoon superheros, life sized collage, fallen kings and ochre abstracts as five Darwin painters present their recent work. Kathy Arbon, Bryan Bulley, Rob Brown, Jacqueline Stockdale and Karen Mills have sustained a practice as a painter in Darwin for a number of years which is no mean feat. This show presents a variety of works from Indigenous and non-Indigenous urban artists who have made the city their home. Although the works are different, themes of memory, connections, disconnections and re-connections run throughout the show.
Each of these artists has a strong individual style and their works stand out from one another because of the scale or the vibrancy of colour and form. There is a challenge involved in showing these divergent artists together but the recent works of these painters represent a part of the diversity and vibrancy of contemporary painting in Darwin.
