"Cover Story: celebrating 40 years of Pottery in Australia"
2002-02-24 until 2002-06-02
Powerhouse Museum
Sydney, , AU Australia

The Powerhouse Museum, in conjunction with the Potters' Society of Australia, has launched an exhibition to celebrate the 40th anniversary of its journal, Pottery in Australia. Cover Story: celebrating 40 years of 'Pottery in Australia' opens on 24 February and features 116 covers of the magazine and a small selection of ceramics from the Powerhouse Museum collection.

Established in 1962, Pottery in Australia has attracted hundreds of articles and submissions from a broad cross-section of the international ceramics community. Starting out as a black and white 26-page journal, Pottery in Australia today is a 104-page full-colour journal promoting a better understanding of technical and aesthetic issues relating to ceramics.

This exhibition provides a fascinating reminder of the story of those who have chosen to work in ceramics in Australia during the last 40 years and of the changes in ceramic practice along the way. There are many familiar forms and faces on the covers of this journal, said Grace Cochrane, senior curator, Australian decorative arts and design.
