Canadian Broadcasting Corporation
Vancouver, BC,
CA Canada
Ingrid Koivukangas has been invited to be the first artist in residence
at CBC TV Vancouver for the new ZeD TV pilot program.
( http://www.zed.cbc.ca ). this new series is an interlacing of TV
and internet. It appears on the air, coast to coast, with the
first week running from March 18 to 22 from 11:25 pm
to 12:25 am, with internet 24/7.
Koivukangas will be creating a site-specific installation work
in the studio, based on outdoor sites. Viewers will be
able to follow the artist's progress nightly, as well as, send
comments and download maps online of the sites where she is working. There are also other artists involved -
musicians, singers, dancers, writers, spoken word -
with Bif Naked as host.
Ingrid Koivukangas classifies her work as environmental sculpture or land based art. It encompasses
many mediums including site specific ephemeral works, photography, video, sound,
installation, collage and the internet. She works at and from sites in the natural world.
Viewers are encouraged to leave the gallery setting with maps to find ephemeral site
specific works. The gallery work itself ranges from installations bringing site materials
to the gallery via video, photography, sound to framed works that combine site
photographs with topographic maps, aerial photographs, stereoscopic glasses, GPS
readings and natural site materials -- that combined act as a map to the site.
Koivukangas has participated in several artist-in-residencies in both Europe and Canada. She has exhibited for the past eight years across Canada.
