"Steve Hough - Synthetic Striations, Stereo-chromatic Paintings"
2002-03-22 until 2002-04-27
Zg Gallery
Chicago, IL, USA United States of America

Although Steve Hough works within the rigid formalities of monochromatic painting, his most recent work has pushed the boundaries of the monochrome to such an extent that the results can best be described as stereo-chrome.

The Plexiglas surface is carved into undulating ripples and buffed to a pristine glossy sheen, providing not only the structural support but also a stage upon which the color transitions act. Seemingly independent colors co-exist on the same plane but at different times. Light, shadow and reflection aid each color as it vies for recognition, struggles for dominance, and at the apex of its intensity, gives way to yet another color.

Steve Hough lives and works in Milwaukee's North Shore area. This will be his first Chicago solo exhibition.
