"Transmigration: Contemporary Works from 13 Artists"
2002-04-09 until 2002-07-21
Pretoria Art Museum
Arcadia, Pretoria, ,
ZA South Africa
This cross-cultural exhibition combines the art and ideas of thirteen contemporary South African artists together with a Canadian and an American artist. The artists use their art to communicate aspects of South African life which range from religious to political and sexual expressions.
The Pretoria Art Museum opened in May 1964, and is the city's only fine
arts museum. The collection of more than 5000 works of art includes
paintings, sculpture, graphics, tapestries, photographic art and ceramics.
The Museum's mission is the development and management in an innovative manner of all the art
historical resources to the benefit of the whole community and visitors. The
present - and future - collections must reflect the art and cultural historical
diversity of South Africa. Community inputs are of vital importance.
Thier vision is the involvement of the community, reflection of the cultural diversity of the
community and promotion of visual literacy by means of exhibitions of the
art historical resources.
