"James Webb - Phonosynthesizer"
2002-04-10 until 2002-04-25
Sasol Art Museum, University of Stellenbosch
Stellenbosch, , ZA South Africa

James Webb will create a site-specific sound installation at the US Art Gallery. The installation will examine the relationship between technology and nature, using digital errors and technological noise.

Listeners will be able to roam around the part landscape, part dreamscape, through the space and experience the accidental meshing of sound into fresh aural territories.

My immediate reaction on seeing the space was a desire to juxtapose electronic technology with the pristine whiteness of the gallery. I wanted to mix the old with the new, the natural with the digital, and create a futuristic sound garden against the backdrop of a white Lutheran church surrounded by oak trees and stone streets- James Webb

James Webb has participated in several exhibitions, recordings and performances both nationally and internationally.
