"From Europe To the Golden State: Kasia Czerpak-Welinski, Margaret Handwerker, Michael Iofin, and Pavel Vogler"
2002-04-25 until 2002-06-30
Platt-Borstein Gallery, University of Judaism
Bel Air, CA, USA United States of America

From Europe to the Golden State, an exhibition presenting paintings, drawings and tapestries, will be shown through June 30th at the Platt-Borstein Gallery at the University of Judaism. Artists Kasia Czerpak-Welinski, Margaret Handwerker, Michael Iofin, and Pavel Vogler have been influenced by political and social change in their countries of origin as well as their connections to the world art scene.

Kasia Czerpak-Weglinski’s work moves from the exploration of natural disasters and man-made catastrophes to the spirit of reconstruction and renewal in mixed media.

Margaret Handwerker’s large-scale wool tapestries carry forward Poland’s modern expression of a traditional art form.

Ironic commentary expressed through the human figure fill Michael Iofin’s paintings and drawings. Educated in Russia, he now lives in San Francisco.

Painter and set-designer, Pavel Vogler’s source material for painting is his Polish–Jewish family history during the Holocaust.

The public is invited to a reception for the artists at the Platt-Borstein Gallery at the University of Judaism Sunday, April 28, from 1 to 3 p.m. Mr. Roman Czarny, Cultural Attaché of The office of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland, will be present. The regular hours of the exhibit are Sunday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., closed on Saturdays and Jewish holidays. Beginning in mid-May the University will be closed on Sundays. The University is located at 15600 Mulholland Drive, just off the 405 Freeway in the Sepulveda Pass.
