At the Focus Gallery, photographs of women nude in the landscape by Sandra Merritt permit an intimate glimpse into the sensuality of the female body. A woman’s radiantly nude body lies languidly atop the sun-baked and broken earth. The only semblance between the two forms is the sharp scar of childbirth.

Working with a 4x5 view camera, Sandra uses black and white to enhance and contrast the symmetry of the female form and the natural world. But where she uses color in medium format, she takes a playful and whimsical approach in expressing the female role developed in society.

Sandra Merritt’s photographs will be exhibited through the month of May at the Focus Gallery, 2423 Polk Street, San Francisco, CA. Gallery hours are 12-6 Wed., Fri., Sat., Sun. and 12-9 Tues., Thurs.
