"The Bold and The Beautiful"
2002-05-09 until 2002-05-31
The Pavilions, Mile End Park
London, , UK United Kingdom

The Bold and The Beautiful is a big show of fourteen international artists living in London. The Bold and The Beautiful mixes acclaimed and emerging artists producing large-scale new paintings, drawings and installations to fill two spectacular domes in Mile End Park. The Bold and The Beautiful is about why London is so good and why artists from around the world come to London. London is a city of migrants whose centre is not Soho or Oxford Street. Tourists ask: Where should I go? How do I meet a real Londoner? Because London is defined by its people and cultures, not its geography, there are no answers.

The Bold and The Beautiful showcases some of the best young artists in London and celebrates its incredible diversity and energy. The Bold and The Beautiful is a picture of London in 2002.

The Bold and The Beautiful will take place in The Pavilions in Mile End Park, 10,000 square feet of exhibition space in two domes, 5 minutes from Mile End Tube. They were built recently as part of the regeneration of Mile End Park, a project which has transformed it into one of the best public spaces in London. Resembling buried slices of New York's Guggenheim in a London park, these domes are boldly optimistic in their potential. The Pavilions are a great example of London's hidden beauty.

The Artists Include: Chantal Joffe(UK) who delightfully disturbs with her mysterious figures deftly described in oil paint. Markus Vater(DE) Big paintings with music and words and images. Makes installations and performances with his hobbypopMuseum friends all round the world. Marta Marce (ESP)Minimal Motif abstract paintings. Her paintings speak about process, freedom, and beauty.

Daryll Joffe is the mother of Chantal Joffe and Jasper Joffe. This is the first time all three of them have exhibited together. One is reminded of the Brueghel family or the Chapmans, but a little gentler.
