"From Heroes to Dudes: Studies of Male Figure"
2002-05-11 until 2002-07-21
Georgia Museum of Art
Athens, GA, USA United States of America

The academic male nude has remained one of the most revered yet controversial subjects throughout the history of art. From Heroes to Dudes presents renderings of nude male bodies in the academic style from the collections of the Georgia Museum of Art and from the long-term loan collection of Giulano Ceseri.

From Albrecht Dürer’s 17th-century studies of the male figure to Kenyon Cox’s late 19th-century drawings of male nude models, a wide array of images will allow viewers to discover the ways in which real and mythical male bodies were drawn, painted, and printed over a span of nearly 200 years. Curated by Romita Ray, From Heroes to Dudes will be on view in the George-Ann and Boone Knox Gallery of Prints and Drawings. It is generously sponsored by the W. Newton Morris Foundation and the Friends of the Museum.

Organized from the collections of the museum by curator Romita Ray, From Heroes to Dudes will be on view in the George-Ann and Boone Knox Gallery of Prints and Drawings and is sponsored by the W. Newton Morris Charitable Foundation and the Friends of the Museum.
