"Call for Artists: Intenational Festival of Postmodern Ceramics"

The International Festival of Postmodern Ceramics is the international ceramics exhibition being held under the patronage of the City of Varazdin. The exhibition will be held triennially. This year, the exhibition is held from 13 October to 3 November 2002 in the City Museum of Varazdin and at other exhibition venues. Artists are expected to show creativity, originality and poetry in approach, the buoyancy of imagination and the favor for fantasy when dealing with design and shaping, as well as a very clear handling of colour. A soft porcelain paste is recommended for the modelling, but it’s not obligatory.

The organizers of the exhibition are KERAMEIKON, Croatian Ceramic Association and the City Museum of Varazdin with the support of and in collaboration with the "Neue Keramik" ceramics journal (Berlin)

Awards:

1. Grand Prix, in the amount of US$2000,-
2. Award for a young exhibitor, entitled Those who are coming, in the amount of US$ 500,-
3. Other prizes and honorary mentions

Individuals and art groups from all over the world may take part in The International Festival of Postmodern Ceramics as long as they meet the criteria established by the organisers. Each candidate has the right to submit two works. The work can be only biscuit fired and, if there are no other opportunities and if it fits the style of someone’s artistic expression. Work may be painted unbaked.

Entry forms for the competition:

Every candidate must submit:

1. An entry application on the form enclosed.
2. Two slides or two colour photographs, of such a quality as to make good printing possible (the work has to be photographed from various angles).
3. A short biography.
4. A receipt of the registration fee in the amount of US$30,- This registration fee is obligatory for all the candidates except for those up to the age of 30, for whom the fee is US$15,- and who should prove their age by the copy of an identification card or by other appropriate document such as passport, driving licence and so on.
These documents are the integral part of the application.

Deadline for submission of applications 30 Jun 2002.

Selection of the works

Selection of the works on the basis of the photographs or slides will be carried out by a several-member international experts jury. The president of the jury will be Mr Gustav Weiss, the author of a number of books in the field of ceramics and the counsellor adviser of the ceramic journal "Neue Keramik" from Berlin. The jury will also decide on the awards for the prizes and diplomas of honour. The decision of the jury will be final. The candidates rejected in the final selection will be informed about the results. Their slides and colour prints will not be returned - they stay in the archives of the exhibition. Each work awarded the prize will become the property of the sponsor who sponsored the award.

Delivery of works

Artists selected by the jury will be asked to deliver the works according to the organisers’ instructions, not later than 30 August 2002.

The delivery and insurance costs are at the expense of artists. The organisers of the exhibition accept responsibility for the handling of works, as well as for their insurance costs, from the moment they arrive to Vara_din, during the show and till the moment of their return. In case of "vis maior" the organisers can not take any responsibility.

Award of prizes and the opening of the exhibition 13 October, 2002.

Accompanying events

The exhibition will be accompanied by many interesting activities and meetings, with people who are well known in the world of ceramics.

Publications and information

The organisers will do all the public relations and on time inform the public of all the important activities related to the exhibition. The organisers reserve the right to use all the visual material relating to the exhibition for the purpose of publicity and for other purposes. The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue and other publicity information material.

Return of the works

The costs of the return of the works after the exhibition will be on the expense of artists. The organisers will arrange the return of the works soon after the exhibition is closed. There is the possibility for the artists to donate their works to the holdings of the exhibition. By signing the entry form, the artist confirms his/her acceptance of the organisers’ rules.
