"The Arch Rival of Verbal Communication"
2002-06-08 until 2002-07-01
LaTrobe Street Gallery
Melbourne, ,
AU Australia
Five young artists explore the dynamics of social protocol as they exist and develop within contemporary society. This exhibition is designed to encourage interplay between the emotional states of the audience and those represented in, and being played out by, the images.
Created with media ranging from texta to traditional oils to latch-hook rugs, two-dimensional images conspire to form a plethora of emotional signifiers.
Imagery for the work is sourced from the discarded photographs of strangers, family photographs, popular magazines and the imagination of the artists. Two-dimensional images take on their own function within the social system, contributing to another’s thought and feeling as if they had assumed a life of their own.
