East Hill is a ridge that lies between Ottery St Mary and the coastal
resort
of Sidmouth, Devon. The paintings are based on sketches and photographs made
there during 1996, subsequently sourcing additional drawings, photographic
and digital material. The works draw the viewer into an epic visual
narrative, a single contemporary storyline that encompass love and tragedy,
yogic poses, cyber-punks and techno-luddism...

About the artist
Jim Tovey is a painter living in Castor, Peterborough. He won an art
scholarship to Clifton College in Bristol for five years. Following a course
in Archaeology at Exeter University Jim went on to complete a painting
foundation course at Byam Shaw School of Art followed by a term of special
studies.
Jim supplied the Centre for Wetland Archaeology at Hull University with
computer graphics, illustrations and photographs for archaeology reports,
conferences and websites. He subsequently produced imagery for EMAP Active
magazines.
