"Julie Comnick: Within Earshot"
2002-07-12 until 2002-08-10
Zg Gallery
Chicago, IL, USA United States of America

My images invite the viewer to become re-sensitized to the commonplace, and to recognize the symbolism embedded in our everyday lives.  By recognizing the symbolic nature of our surroundings, we become aware of shifts and changes, and begin to detect the signs of the unexpected.  As we identify the precursors within our contemporary environments, we can prepare ourselves for the unanticipated: alerted, we are positioned within earshot.

Julie Comnicks large scale paintings and scroll-like charcoal drawings will be exhibited together for the first time in the upcoming show; Within Earshot: Recent Paintings & Drawings by Julie Comnick.  Julie Comnick received her BFA from the Evergreen State College in Olympia Washington and her MFA from Montana State University in Bozeman.  Although her paintings and drawings have appeared in numerous exhibitions in the Pacific Northwest, this will be her first solo exhibition at a Chicago gallery and the first time her paintings and works on paper will be shown together.
