Indepth Arts News:
"Dream House"
2002-07-19 until 2002-08-25
City Gallery Wellington, 360-Michael Hirschfeld Gallery
Wellington, ,
NZ
Six Wellington architects are invited to design their 'dream house'. Beyond
this the brief is open... The house could be a past, present or future
project the participating architects have been or are involved with. It
could be a house they have always dreamed about designing but because of
commercial constraints have been prevented from realising. Or it could be an
imaginary house designed to a fictional brief that the architect writes-such
a brief might engage with notions about site, time, whose dream the house is
imagined for.
Architects will be encouraged to give thought to the presentation of
designs and could approach the invitation to exhibiting in a gallery
environment as an opportunity to stretch the design and its presentation
beyond the usual parameters of commercial practice. Models and drawings
would be well suited to the intimate scale of the Hirschfeld Gallery. Other
possibilities include projection, digital images. Architects may choose to
focus on the conceptual nature of the design in its final presentation, or
on an essential aspect of the design rather than representing the home in
its entirety.
