"Sam Abell: The Photographic Life"
2002-07-19 until 2002-09-15
University of Virginia Art Museum
Charlottesville, VA, USA

In a thirty-five year career as a photographer, Sam Abell has traveled throughout the world documenting the lives and environments of peoples of all cultures. This first, comprehensive exhibition of his work shows the development of an artistic sensibility and maturity.

A longtime Albemarle County resident, Mr. Abell has made in-depth photographic essays for magazines and books, and is particularly known for his work for the National Geographic Society, including his 1999 book on Australia. In 1990 Mr. Abell’s photographs were exhibited in a one-man show at the International Center of Photography in New York City in conjunction with the publication of his mid-career retrospective "Stay This Moment".
