"Three Artists Selected for the Mappin Open"
2002-08-03 until 2002-10-06
Mappin Art Gallery
Sheffield, , UK United Kingdom

Three artists were selected from over 250 submissions for this prestigious show. Ian Skoyles, Tina OConnell, and Paul Rooney were chosen to present new artwork that questions the validity and truth behind modern days view of perfection. The selectors were artist Richard Wilson, critic Tim Marlow and curator Anne Goodchild.

Ian Skoyles uses discarded pieces of jigsaw puzzles bought from second hand shops and car boot sales to create new composite images that question the validity of the perfect landscape as frequently portrayed on the puzzles.

Tina OConnell has created a new work which relates to the nature of the gallery space in which she is exhibiting.

Paul Rooneys video and sound pieces examine the relationship between the individual and the communal, through peoples experiences of working as a telesales worker, gallery assistant or cloakroom attendant set to quirky pop songs.
