The Renato Dorfman Gallery is pleased to announce The Perseverance of The Root, the latest multimedia exhibition by its' namesake artist Renato Dorfman. This latest offering from Cancun's own Dorfman combines elements of sculpture, performance art, video presentation, music, and poetry.

Dorfman, born in Mexico City and residing in Cancun, is rapidly earning an international reputation as an artist unafraid to combine techniques, influences or disciplines. Perseverance is a celebration of sculpture: his new offerings in stoneware, sand and oils celebrate the human form and Renato's own brand of Maya-Caribbean Surrealism. His musical compositions combine elements of indigenous sounds from all over the world with electronic loops and his own wrenching lyrics. His new compositions in video add visual images to his words in poetry, magnifying their intensity. The Path of the Masks performance, a combination dance and ritual, combines elements of African and Mexican indigenous culture celebrating magic, sensuality and nature.

2002 has been an interesting year for Dorfman. Within the last six months he has celebrated expositions to wide critical and public acclaim in Canada and the US, and plans for 2003 include shows in Calgary, Vancouver, Philadelphia, and New York City. A building project featuring Renato's inimitable braided sculpture style is set to be featured in Philadelphia later this year. Perseverance follows on the heels of last year's successful exhibition Ritual for Harmony Amid the Chaos, a plegary for peace, which unintentionally coincided shortly after the incidents of September 11, 2001.
