Featured Artist: Alo Munizza … in the eye of the beholder This
exhibition is an eclectic work of images showing my love of both animate and
inanimate subjects. Photography loves banal objects and when it is well
done it can bring passion to these objects. Passion is so necessary to all
creative endeavors.
Munizza is more than a world traveler who makes the
most of the exotic places with her photography; she is an artist who can add
more magic to what are already incredible images. Most photographers would
be happy with the original images that Munizza captures with her camera, but
Munizzas work really begins in the darkroom. That is where the magic
begins. Her techniques include cropping, sandwiching two negatives
together, inserting various materials between the enlarger head and the
paper, and/or painting with photographic ink. As a result, Munizza has
earned a place as Featured Artist for the fifth time. Featured Artist: Annie Dover Into The Story: Italia My quest is to
reign in visual and emotional experience for the show. I was charmed by the
multi-hued walls, doors and shuttered windows with the combinations that
reminded me of double scooped Gelato cones.
Born and raised in San Diego, California, Annie Dover graduated from San
Diego State University with a BA in Psychology and Music. She earned an MA
in Counseling through the Department of Education, SDSU. She also holds an
AA in Art. She has studied painting with Vladimir Medencia and Willie
McGrath, but she is an independent and largely self-taught artist who has
been active in the region for over 20 years. She has adopted a multitude of
approaches to her work; from personal symbolism to psychological
portraiture/figurative to California plein-air painting. Her current work
is characterized by strong color under intense light giving shape to the
form. Her oil paintings are of real life experience tinged with romantic
realism. Annie Licari Dover has been the recipient of many awards: Jurors
Choice, Grumbacher Award, 2nd and 3rd Place at the Del Mar Fair in realistic
oil painting and this year 1st Place at the Del Mar Fair in realistic oil
painting. She is represented by Santa Ysabel Gallery. This is the second
time Dover has been a Featured Artist at SDAI.
