"Call for Artists: Beyond the Canvas Television Program"
2002-10-04 until 2002-10-30
About the Arts
Boston, MA, USA United States of America

This new television program takes a look "Beyond the Canvas". Artists are invited to submit work for new series airing in 2003. James E. Brown and Yssa R. Santos have been producing their weekly half hour television program highlighting local artists working in all mediums since August of 1995. Now in it's 8th season the show will take on a new direction in programming in 2003.

About the Arts has issued an open call for artists to submit their work for possible inclusion in our 2003 series "Beyond the Canvas". This series of thirteen, half hour mini-documentaries will focus not only on the artists and their work but examine the contributions that art and artists make in shaping the world we live in.

"We realize that there are many artists who create work to bring awareness to issues such as racism, AIDS, poverty, homelessness, hunger and the environment. They hope their art also brings reaction and change. We are excited to offer them a venue to tell their stories and present their art". Said James Brown, About the Arts producer.

"Beyond the Canvas" will explore the sources of inspiration for these artists. Whether it has been their travels, personal life experiences, or the challenge of seeing the world beyond their neighborhood, we want to bring these artists' and their stories to the public. We're looking for substance, compelling stories, ideas and vision; artists who are fully aware of the ripple effects the arts can have on our society and the world.

Massachusetts visual, performing, literary and media artists interested in submitting work for consideration or for more information on submission requirements are encouraged to visit the website at aboutthearts.com, email the producer at jamesbrown@aboutthearts.com or call 617-644-0143.

The team is excited about getting this new project underway. "It is the right time. People need the inspiration these stories will bring; and to understand that one person can still make an enormous difference," said Yssa Santos, Co-Producer.
