"Some Assembly Required"
2002-10-26 until 2003-02-23
Museum of Glass, International Center for Contemporary Art
Tacoma, WA, USA United States of America

Some Assembly Required will present fifteen works of art by eleven internationally acclaimed artists currently working with glass. The exhibition focuses on how these artists produce a single work by assembling many intricate parts.

Contemporary sculpture has been knocked from the pedestal and has grown to heroic proportions, said Neil Watson, chief curator at the Museum of Glass. In Some Assembly Required we are bringing together artists working with glass who have distinguished themselves with ingenious approaches to materials and created complex and significant works of art.

As post-war painting and sculpture has grown dramatically in scale, the medium of glass grew right along with it. Due to the nature of glass, these demands have required vision and ingenuity from artists. Included in Some Assembly Required will be works by Dale Chihuly, Joey Kirkpatrick, Flora C. Mace, Dante Marioni, Richard Marquis, William Morris, Ginny Ruffner, Italo Scanga, Anna Skibska, Therman Statom and Lino Tagliapietra.

Some Assembly Required will be accompanied by a catalogue that will include full-color photographs, an exhibition essay and artist biographies. The catalogue will be available on October 26.
