"Lightgarden: Video Installation and Photogram-based Computer Generated Prints by Anne Keener"
2002-11-01 until 2002-11-30
Ohio Art League
Columbus, OH, USA United States of America

Anne Keener's artwork has crossed disciplines between painting, photography and video. For the month of November, Anne intends to create a site-specific installation for the Ohio Art League Gallery - a total sensory experience rather than simply a visual one.

Anne Keener, on “what the viewer will encounter” in her MCE Lightgarden:

"As you walk into the gallery you will see framed prints in regular groupings. Some of the print sets are related by color such as fiery red and orange or green and gold. The subject matter is plant forms like sumac leaves, Virginia Creeper Vines, Jacaranda leaves and Morning Glories. The prints have a graphic look when viewed from a distance, but close-up reveal pattern and detail. The process involves taking black and white photograms with garden images, and applying layers of color using Photoshop software, then printing them on large format archival paper to produce the final print.

"On the East wall you will see a group of prints and also a 4-inch video screen recessed into the wall. This eye-level screen plays a video loop of imagery similar to the prints, but in motion. Plant forms sway in the breeze in a setting of dramatic colored light. Overlapping transitions evoke the feeling of hypnotic pleasure. The viewer can enter the space behind the wall to encounter a corridor with an elliptical screen  appearing to float in darkness. Projected from above the viewer is a 3-minute video loop, which begins with a stone thrown into water and moves to flowers appearing to float in black space. Transitions of pure color combined with plants and water images are designed to create a relaxing visual experience. The sound track is bells in the distance mimicking the sound in my studio garden at six o'clock."
