"ErosSalt: Fettish Art"
2002-11-30 until 2003-01-11
Krasno Gallery
Chicago, IL, USA United States of America

Rita Smolyansky, director of Krasno Gallery announces an opening reception of eroSSalt. eroSSalt, a collaboration of illustration, paintings, and fetish photography, will feature works by two well-known local photographers, a legally blind artist from Rochester, Minnesota, and a local surprise guest artist. The exhibit will continue through December 31, 2002.

Serik Kulmeshkenov's etchings offer a vision of a man legally blind since age 26. Mr. Kulmeshkenov emigrated from Kazakhstan in 1999. Author Douglas McGill describes Serik's style in an article (Rochester Magazine, MN): "an artist of kindly disposition well known to the general public his clean and classical style is whimsical and even surreal at times, mixing elements of the German master engraver Albrecht Durer, the Dutch visual illusionist M.C. Escher, and the droopy candy-cane trees and hats and highways of Dr. Seuss." His brilliant compositions keep the viewers‚ eyes circling and stumbling upon new detailed objects every time a new turn is taken. Serik is also a graphic designer and a cartoonist. He created a number of satiric illustrations especially for the show, giving the show a catchy name "eroSSalt". View his work at www.serikusa.narod.ru

Harlan Overlike is a Chicago-based photographer who is driven by capturing those off moments we all fear may be witnessed by others. His sense of observation, balance and multiple realities meld into images that are memorable, sometimes disturbing and always moving. Rita Sky of Krasno Gallery describes Harlan as "hawk eyes on very fast wheels". He has worked with Playboy and Calvin Klein models, in addition to numerous designers and artists to assist them in expressing their products and talents. Exploring randomness and freedom is one of his ongoing projects. Harlan welcomes commission, music industry, fashion, portrait, fine art and nude work for magazines, private galleries, CD covers, press kits and the Internet. Helen Berkun, a Russian-native currently residing in Chicago, has been fascinated with photography since the age of four. She has made her childhood fantasy a reality, and did not take her talent for granted. "I have never met an individual so young and so determined at the same time", says Rita Sky, "Possessing a talent is one thing - accomplishing goals utilizing that talent is another." She expresses her risqué ideas through captivating self-portraits, shocking the audience again and again. Helen is currently attending Columbia College, Chicago, majoring in photography. Her work has been on display at Bar 3, Feitico Gallery, MINX, Foundry Metal Arts Gallery, the Holkin Gallery, and Echo Gallery coming up on December 7, 2002.
