Born in 1967, Magnus von Plessen has developed since the end of the nineties a highly concentrated work, which studies the potentialities of painting after the age of photography. Most of his works are small-format paintings of rooms, persons and rudimentary scenes. The use of artistic techniques is well-thought-out and much disciplined in its ostensible fortuity.

The pictures analyse the peculiarity and special quality of painting and confronts this quality with the world dominated by other media. The artist depicts his idea by means of concrete human experiences and emotions. P>Including 20 paintings of the last two years, the exhibition marks the beginning of a series of smaller shows dealing with current artistic positions – thus allowing a more detailed insight to the K21 collection, its artworks and its artists.

The exhibition’s catalogue contains an interview with the artist by Ulrich Loock as well as articles by Daniel Marzona and Julian Heynen.
