"Call for Artists: Illuminance - Photographic Works from around the US"
2003-01-03 until 2003-02-24
Buddy Holly Center Fine Art Gallery
Lubbock, TX, USA United States of America

Illuminance is a national competitive exhibition featuring photographic work from across the US. The Fine Arts program of the Buddy Holly Center is committed to the promotion of contemporary visual arts and educational programs. In its sixteenth year we are proud to present Illuminance at the Buddy Holly Center.

Juror Connie Gibbons, Director of the Buddy Holly Center, will jury the 2003 exhibition of Illuminance. Connie helped to establish the Illuminance photographic competition in 1986 while serving as the Assistant Director of the Lubbock Fine Arts Center. In 1987 Connie became the Director of the Lubbock Fine Arts Center - in the last 16 years, she has curated and organized over 100 contemporary visual arts exhibitions including the Visual Vanguards series: Black Creativity in Texas, Cinco de Tejas, Art Music Culture, and Doc Spellmon. Other exhibitions include Las Mujeres Hablan, Pieces Parts and Passion, the Quilted Medium, the Cocktail Party, and Texas Works.

In 1994, when the City of Lubbock purchased several items belonging to Buddy Holly, Connie expanded her vision to include a museum and center for the arts, a multi-purpose facility in which the music legacy of Texas could be preserved along side an expansive gallery space to present visual art exhibitions. Connie's vision and perseverance resulted in the opening of the Buddy Holly Center on September 3, 1999. The Buddy Holly Center houses a Texas Musicians Hall of Fame, a permanent exhibition on the life and music of Buddy Holly, and the Fine Arts Gallery of Lubbock. Connie continues to madly plan, envision, and present high quality visual arts exhibitions, educational programs, and special events.
