ARTS 2003
an annual juried Art Competition & Exhibition taking place at
SURREY ART GALLERY
MAY 17 – JULY 6, 2003
Deadline for Entry: 4:00 pm, Friday, April 11, 2003
PURPOSE:
In partnership with local visual artists, the Arts Council of Surrey, the
Surrey Art Gallery and the Surrey community, this annual, juried
Exhibition celebrates art making in Surrey, recognizes local artists’ merits
and achievements, and creates professional development and promotional
opportunities for local artists.
The Arts Council of Surrey invites residents of Surrey, White Rock,
Langley, Delta, and Richmond to enter a maximum of three (3) works per
artist (regardless of Category) for jurying. However, only one work
(regardless of Category) will be selected for the Exhibition.
This Show is also open to artists who live outside the areas of Surrey,
White Rock, Langley, Delta, and Richmond, but they must belong to clubs
that are members of the Arts Council, or they must become a member of
the Arts Council themselves.

ENTRY INFORMATION
ENTRY FEES CAN$ 20.00 for one work
SUBMISSION OF ENTRY FEES
Fees must in the form of a cheque or money order (NOT CASH) made
payable to the Arts Council of Surrey. The completed entry form and fee
must be:

INFORMATION ON JURYING
CRITERIA FOR JURYING
The basis for selection will be sensitive to the diversity of work
submitted, in recognition that artists make art for different reasons and
from different experiences. The jurors will be looking for works that
convey evidence of personal creative explorations and artistic
commitment. Jurors will also consider the execution of the work as related
to the artist’s intention to select a balanced representation of styles, subject
matter, and media from the submissions.
DELIVERY OF WORK FOR JURYING
Work must be delivered to the classroom at the Surrey Arts Centre,
13750 - 88 Avenue, Surrey, between 2:00 and 4:00 pm, and between
7:00 and 8:30 pm, Friday, April 25. (Please ensure that the ARTS 2003
Identification Form is completed and attached to the back of each work
entered.)
JURYING
Jurying takes place on Saturday, April 26.
PICK UP OF WORK FOLLOWING JURYING
All work must be picked up from the classroom of the Surrey Arts
Centre between 2:00 and 4:30 pm, Sunday, April 27. There is no
storage space at the Gallery so work not picked up on this date will be
charged a storage fee of CAN$ 5.00/day/item.
WORK CHOSEN FOR EXHIBITION
An artist whose work has been accepted for exhibition will be notified at
the time of pickup on Sunday, April 27. Accepted works will be stored at
the Surrey Art Gallery until they are mounted for exhibition.

DATE OF EXHIBITION
The exhibition runs from Saturday, May 17 – Sunday, July 6
PICKUP OF WORK FOLLOWING EXHIBITION
Work must be collected from the Surrey Art Gallery between
2:30 and 4:00 pm and between 7:00 and 8:30 pm, Monday, July 7.
SALE OF WORK
A 20% commission will be charged on the sale of any work. The artist
concerned will be notified of the sale by telephone. The Arts Council of
Surrey will issue a cheque to the artist as soon as all aspects of the sale are
completed.
OTHER INFORMATION
1. The Committee will take the utmost care in handling the work but
cannot be responsible for loss or damage.
2. To ensure quality and originality, work will not be accepted that is:
2. All pieces must be dry and ready to be displayed. All unframed art
work needs a hanging sleeve or loops on the back of the work.
3. The Surrey Art Gallery has the ability to display CD ROMs in PC
format and videos. If a Mac computer is used, the artist must supply
the computer to display the work.
4. Work is to have been completed within the last two years.
5. Work must not have been previously shown in a public or juried
exhibition.
6. For the protection of both people and work, each piece must be
able to be carried easily by one person, and, therefore, works
exceeding four feet (4’) in width (including the frame), or of
excessive weight, will be refused entry by the Committee receiving
the work for jurying. The decision of this Committee is final.
