"Boys with Needles: David Grenier, Neil MacInnis, Thomas Roach and Patrick Traer"
2003-03-05 until 2003-05-04
Textile Museum of Canada
Tortonto, ON,
CA Canada
On tour from Museum London, Boys with Needles presents the work of four artists - David Grenier, Neil MacInnis, Thomas Roach and Patrick Traer - who use fibre and needles to express their sexual philosophies and inspire dialogue about the role of queer culture in religion, technology, media and the arts. Provocative, fanciful and sometimes humorous, these four artists challenge social stereotypes and the archetypal association of homosexuality and textile arts within western culture.
On March 19 at 7:00 pm, Toronto-based visual artist and writer R.M. Vaughan will be reading selections of his poetry in response to the Boys with Needles exhibition. Vaughan is the author of two books of poetry, a novel, and numerous plays; and is a frequent contributor to a diverse group of periodicals, from the Globe and Mail and Canadian Art to Lola. Vaughan maintains a parallel career as a video artist, with screenings of his narrative and installation films in festivals and galleries across Canada and around the world. Admission for this event is $7.00 for non-members; $6.00 for members and students "Pay What You Can".
