"Hew Locke"
2003-03-11 until 2003-04-04
Wimbledon School of Art, Centre for Drawing
London, , UK United Kingdom

Hew Locke will be showing a group of new experimental works made during his intensive six week residency at the Wimbledon School of Art, Centre for Drawing. Hew lives and works in London and is well known for his large architectural constructions.

One of these large architectural constructions - “Cardboard Palace” – about which he writes that it is: “a huge architectural drawing – a cut and glued installation/sculpture which draws upon Baroque, Rococo, Hindu, Islamic and colonial architecture, along with fairground art. In it I draw with light and shadow, Stanley knife and marker pen. I transmute a cheap lowly material into the substance of High Art. I attempt to bridge the seemingly insurmountable gap between Western and non-western art forms.”
