The Hara Museum of Contemporary Art is pleased to announce Thai Design at Hara Museum, an project co-organized with the Royal Thai Embassy that introduces exciting contemporary Thai culture. The event, which is being held as a part of ASEAN-Japan Exchange Year 2003, features interior design works, a special project located in the Cafe d'Art, and lectures on contemporary Thai culture and architecture.
"Lounge Thai Style" (Gallery I)
Works in this gallery are drawn from the "organic" design project of the Planet, Ayodhya and Yothaka design groups. This project is connected to the environmental beautification campaign promoted by the Thai royal family, which aims at transforming water hyacinth and other plants that are seen as sources of water pollution into chairs, cushions and other beautiful objects through the sophisticated yet traditional craftsmanship of Thailand. This project also plays an important role in providing employment opportunities to Thai women. Nurtured by the rich history and culture of Thailand, the "Land of Smiles," their designs provide relaxation and comfort for daily life.
"THINK CAFE by propaganda"
This event introduces the internationally renowned young design unit, Propaganda, which is known for its witty and stimulating designs. Established in Bangkok in 1994, Propaganda has continuously received high acclaim in Europe and the United States, winning Good Design Awards on several occasions. The Hara Museum and Propaganda have collaborated to create a special THINK CAFE in the museum's Cafe d'Art. As part of this event, the cafe will offer a selection of Thai dishes.
