A selection of photographs, paintings and collaborative works by Cape Town photographer Dale Yudelman and artist Arlene Amaler-Raviv forms the second exhibition at the recently opened David Krut Fine Art, 140 Jan Smuts Avenue, Johannesburg. Opening on 29th March, 2003 the exhibition comprises twenty five works, including the iconic Jo'burg Man which also features in the JHB Art City exhibition in downtown Johannesburg.
Speaking about the exhibition, Dale Yudelman said; "It’s been sixteen years since leaving the city I grew up in and it’s wonderful to be exhibiting here again. This exhibition provides an interesting cross-section of my work to date and gives me the opportunity to include some recent colour photographs as well as to show a few of my early black and white images for the first time in Johannesburg."
The gallery, situated at the front of David Krut’s new arts resource, allows artists the opportunity to show works that otherwise might not be exhibited in Johannesburg. This new space comprises a gallery, an etching print workshop and an art bookshop. The venue is also home to David Krut Publishing, which produces the TAXI Art Book series.
Commenting on the new space, David Krut said; "The multi-faceted nature of David Krut Fine Art means that Yudelman and Amaler-Raviv will display their works in an active space where other artists are working with printmaker Timothy Foulds in the print workshop. Collaboration is the focus of the new arts resource and we are pleased to show the work of two collaborators of some duration, working in contrasting media. The fruits of their collaboration - photographic and painted - create an array of unsettling images which capture the essence of our urban environment."
Yudelman and Amaler-Raviv have also been invited to exhibit their collaborative work at The Eighth Havana Biennale in Cuba at the end of 2003.
