Open Studio is pleased to present State Proofs: Leaps…and Transitions a solo exhibition by Pawel Zablocki, April 3 - 26, 2003. Two separate series of etchings are exhibited alongside reworked states in a formal investigation of how representation inspires and constructs iconography. Zablocki states that, in his work “...the dynamic nature of the narrative is expressed as a series of expectations met and deferred.”
Pawel Zablocki is a Toronto-based artist with an MFA from the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow (Cracow), Poland, and a BA in Art History and Semiotics from the University of Toronto. His current interests lie in the exploration of intaglio techniques such as etching, aquatint, mezzotint and engraving, which he compiles into multi-step procedures. This quest is motivated by his belief that in the wake of new printing technologies, traditional techniques can not only assure the identity of a printmaker, but also yield potential that can broaden the scope of contemporary aesthetics.
Showing concurrently in the George Gilmour Gallery: Anna McIntyre, For those who are preparing to eat me, I have arrived…an exhibition of Tea Warriors.
Showing concurrently in the Print Sales Gallery: Pop Prints: Isabelle Hémard, Eric Mathew, Ed Pien, Liliana Rodriguez, Daryl Vocat, Paul Wong.
