"Voices: Out of Nowhere - Works by Claire Giblin"

The experience of an artist as the medium for expression of "Voices: Out of Nowhere" is the topic of a solo exhibition to be held at Mulberry Art Studios from April 4-30. Join the Claire Giblin at either or both of the opening receptions, First Friday - April 4, from 5 til 8 pm OR Sunday the 6th from 1 to 3 pm. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 10 am to 4 pm and weekends by appointment. Please call the gallery during regular hours at 717-295-1949 for directions and information.
"I have been aware that color actually correlates with specific musical notes and movements primarily because musicians have expressed that awareness for centuries. More recently I became aware of Sibelius' theories concerning the same idea, and was motivated to explore the affect of music on the muse, or the influential creative spirit of the visual artist. In all of my work, I have attempted to listen and to allow certain abstract ideas to become expressions of color and composition. For this exhibit, I have attempted to listen more carefully and to be more consciously aware of the colors which are perceived in my subconscious creative core as I listen to notes, chords and musical pieces. A majority of the work at this exhibition will represent exercises in listening and interpreting musical dialogues. Some of the pieces are monochromatic examples of particular notes, and others are overall compositions to be paired with particular musical pieces. I am not a scholar nor a musical genius, and I find that my desire to express goes well beyond my ability to understand. By being open and willing to interpret what I hear, I can be an effective medium for expressing what is not tangible, but what is evident to anyone who has the desire to listen to the "voices" which seem to derive from "nowhere" -- but which surround us and influence our expression. I don't think there is a visual artist who will not agree."
