Art-lovers are invited to view the latest collection of 20 works by established South African artist, Jaco Benade, being hosted at the Absa Gallery. Pieces range in price from R700 to R5 500.
Says gallerist Cecile Loedolff: "Jaco's works have a romantic feel. They capture your imagination. He also studied architecture and you can pick this up in his work."
Benade describes his work as follows:
In my art I make use of three genres: portrait study, still life and landscape. I take these three elements which I paint in a traditional way and place them together on a cloth in an unconventional way. It gives my work an almost storyboard feel as a result of the various elements brought together.
The Absa Gallery hosts exhibitions every year in order to showcase the talent of emerging and established South African artists. The exhibitions and opening nights are sponsored by Absa so that the artists receive the full benefit from the sale of their works and therefore prices to the public are kept affordable.
Absa has the largest corporate art collection in South Africa, with more than 20 000 works dating back from the 1900s to the present day.
Absa is also the sponsor of the longest running national arts competition, the annual Absa L'Atelier, for young artists between the ages of 21 and 35 years.
