The mandate of the Centre is to promote contemporary Canadian and international artists, emerging and established, from diverse cultural backgrounds; to present a contemporary art program with a strong focus on Canadian performance and media art, with bilingual interpretative material produced for each exhibition; to
adapt to the changing nature of the contemporary arts by maintaining an evolving interdisciplinary presentation space comprised of SAW Gallery, Club SAW and the SAW outdoor courtyard; to
serve the needs of diverse communities through audience development initiatives; to
engage in collaborations with other arts organizations to increase opportunities for exhibiting artists and to outreach to new audiences; to
commit to paying artist fees above CARFAC recommendations.
Submissions should include: an artist statement, a project description, a current CV, 10 - 20 slides or two VHS tapes, and a self-addressed stamped envelope.
Apart from the general call for submissions for our 2004 program, artists are encouraged to send proposals for our special calls for submissions for:
International Geographic (spring 2004)
An experimental ethnographic film and video series
Test Sites (fall 2004)
An off-site performance art festival
Art Star Video Art Biennial (summer 2005)
Screenings of single-channel videos
