Francis Latreille is a French artist who started his career as an international press photographer. It is only after a dozen years of photography that he started painting, primarily colourful sceneries with rolling hills and giant trees as his main recurring backgrounds.
Painting has not stopped him from continuing with his original love of photography. In 1998, he obtained the prestigious World-Press Photo award in Amsterdam. For the past 5 years, the focus of his photographic work has been in Siberia where he participated in the 1998 excavation of the first frozen mammoth.
Francis Latreille has been published in Life, Time, Newsweek and Geo and he is currently working on his second book. Since 1977 Francis has presented his primitive works in Europe, Asia and North America in over thirty exhibitions. His work has been noted and recognized by a number of leading artists and writers.
This is his first exhibition in Washington DC since 2000.
