"Call for Artists: Queer Photography Competitino"

Following the success of the HMI Queer Photo Salons, the highly acclaimed
series of photographic slide shows, Chloe Atkins, curator, in conjunction
with Harvey Milk Institute, an arts, cultural and educational nonprofit
organization serving the LGBT communities and its allies, are sponsoring the
first annual photography competition with a difference. The aim of the
exhibition is to show work by queer photographic artists, which is linked by
the notion of the celebration of LGBT identity and community.
Artists are
invited to explore this theme in a broad sense. Accomplished photographers
from around the world are invited to submit slides of representative work.
All photography-based works are welcome, with no limitations on technique.
The 2003 Queer Photography Competition will produce an exhibit to fill San
Francisco's prestigious Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Community Center
from September 17 through October 31, 2003. This is the week before the
notorious Folsom Street Fair, and The City will be bustling with people and
beautiful weather. The accepted photographs will be seen by thousands of
people and entrants will have a tangible benefit from the competition. Jim
Van Buskirk, Program Manager of the influential James C. Hormel Gay and
Lesbian Center of the San Francisco Public Library, will be the juror for
the 2003 Queer Photography Competition.
$1,000.00 in cash prizes will be awarded to best of show.
An entry fee of $25 for up to three slides plus $5 for each additional
slide, and a SASE for the convenient return of your slides, must be
accompanied by a completed entry form. All entries must be received by July
15, 2003. Accepted prints must be at the Center between August 20 and
September 3, 2003.
