"Call for Artists: 4th Biennial Flintridge Foundation Awards for Mature West Coast Visual Artists"

West Coast visual artists, whose work demonstrates high artistic merit for 20 years or more, are invited to apply for the 4th biennial Flintridge Foundation Awards. Five mature artists from California and five from Oregon/Washington will be selected by separate regional panels to receive unrestricted grants of $25,000 each. Applicants must work in the visual arts disciplines -- fine arts, crafts, performance and media work based in the visual arts traditions -- and have lived at least nine months per year in California, Oregon or Washington for the past three years. The Awards are intended to encourage artists who do not have current national renown. Flintridge has awarded a total of $900,000 to individual artists since the Awards for Visual Artists were first presented in 1997/1998.
The application for the 2003/2004 Awards for Visual Artists will be available July 1, 2003 on the Foundation website -- www.FlintridgeFoundation.org. The deadline for entries is Wednesday, September 17, 2003.
"The program is an open application. If you fit the criteria, you get an equal opportunity," said Alex Moseley, Founding Board member. "We don‚t nominate, pre-select, predetermine or direct the process beyond requiring an application and submission materials. Our wish is to look back in ten years and see a great cross-section of artistic expression represented -- one that reveals a depth and breadth of imagination and originality."
