"Ansel Adams at 100"
2003-07-11 until 2003-11-03
MoMA QNS
Queens, NY,
USA United States of America
This is the first major critical re-evaluation of the work of American
photographer Ansel Adams since his death in 1984. The exhibition presents
more than 100 prints, many of them unfamiliar even to specialists, and
represents substantial reappraisal of Adams as an artist and working
photographer. This exhibition was organized by the San Francisco Museum of
Modern Art. John Szarkowski, Director Emeritus of MoMA's Department of
Photography, organized the exhibition on the occasion of the 100th
anniversary of Adams's birth.
The exhibition is accompanied by a major
publication containing reproductions of extraordinary fidelity and an essay
by Mr. Szarkowski that articulates his reappraisal of Adams's work. The
international tour is made possible by Hewlett-Packard. Support for the New
York showing is provided by AOL Time Warner Book Group and the Robert and
Joyce Menschel Family Foundation. Additional funding is provided by the
Daniele Agostino Foundation. The accompanying educational programs are made
possible by BNP Paribas.
