Indepth Arts News: "Anathematic: Constanze Zikos 1990-2003" 2003-07-30 until 2003-09-06 Monash University Museum of Art Clayton, VI, AU Australia
He delights in
fake, revived, popularised or imitated forms, such as recycled classical Greek patterns and motifs, and materials including laminex
and glomesh. His transformation of cultural forms infuses the language of abstraction with cultural reference and meaning.
By depicting flags and geometric patterns, Zikos' work considers how cultural motifs are utilised and transformed. The kitsch and homely quality of laminex is contrasted with the symbolic forms that question aspects of identity.
