66balmy, an art gallery dedicated to supporting and celebrating contemporary art of all kinds, announced today that it will be exhibiting the abstract paintings of artist, Kathleen King, from August 6 to August 24 in a solo show called "Soul Tracing". An opening reception will take place at the Annex on Friday, August 8 from 7 to 10 pm.
A Bay Area native and graduate of UC Berkeley, King began painting seriously in the late 1990ís. Since then, her artistic career has blossomed as she beautifully investigates and dissects the human drive to achieve "wholeness". Her spontaneous paintings go beyond depth of color and seemingly random markings of circles, spirals, and lines, to invite the viewer to reflect on this struggle to be complete.
"A signature element in my paintings is the circle," comments King. "As in Zen painting, the simplicity of the circular brushstroke encompasses the Universe with one endless line. As I paint the circle over and over, it exposes my essence, for better or worse, with deception impossible."
